Introducing our Video
The second week went great. We knew that the first cohort was going to be there again, so we had a couple of activities planed depending on how long they would take. After the students watched their video we started out by presenting our idea and seeing what ideas they had about it. We changed our plan because the first cohorts was very similar and they kids said that they were unable to really learn a lot about technology. Our new plan consists of having the kids make posters (with the options of on the computer or by drawing) and then filming the kids with their sign. Their signs will consist one poster saying how they feel when they are bullied and the other saying what someone could do to make them feel better. I made examples; my feeling was ignored, and how someone could make me feel better was by siting with me. We then had the students start to come up with ideas drawn up on paper for what they want to do next week on the computer or by hand. As the students started to finish we talked to the kids about the music we wanted to put into the video. We had each come up with a couple of songs and as we started playing them for the kids. There were songs that everyone thought would be great like Firework by Katy Perry, but we had trouble finding songs that the kids like that were about being bullied. The kids had a lot of ideas, some that were not exactly fitting for what we were doing, but great ideas. We are going to keep trying to find a song like this that the boys will like too.
As a whole the day was pretty successful At the end of the first cohort they asked the kids to complete a survey about tech club which was a great idea. The kids said that they love tech club that they wished they were learning more about technology. with this great feedback we are trying to give the children as much time to play around and use different technologies. The kids seemed glad to get more of a chance. Our idea is different enough that the students were pretty interested in it. Our plan for next week will allow for the students who finish early to move onto doing more stuff with the video such as film themselves or learn about using iMovie.
This week the kids all stayed together to help us finish planing the movie and song. Next week as the kids decide how they want to make their poster. Then we will split into a 3rd group as kids finish their poster to (depending on time) start filming or talk about how iMovie works. I believe we have it planed out well enough that by the 5th week we can teach the kids about editing and have them involved in the editing process, so that the sixth week we will have the time to present the movies.
